City golf course to lose license

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan has instructed agencies concerned to consider revoking the license of a major golf course project and use part of the land to build houses for workers.

The Hiep Binh Phuoc Golf Course, covering an area of 160.5 hectares in Thu Duc District, was licensed in October 2007. But so far its investor, the Yonwoo-Van Phuc joint venture, had failed to implement the project citing financial difficulties.

Quan instructed agencies concerned to earmark four hectares of the project to build houses for workers.

On Tuesday, Quan also asked the Department of Planning and Investment to review implementation of golf course projects in the city and report to the municipal administration by next Friday.

Of seven golf courses licensed in the city, six have been very slow, the city said.

HCMC authorities had also said earlier that in addition to Hiep Binh Phuoc, they would consider revoking the license of three other golf courses this year.
